The Fishing Was Good!

Roger did a lot of fishing while we were in Alaska - pretty much every morning he would get up early and head out to somewhere - different days, different places. Much of the time he caught something, but on the days when he didn't he still had fun, saw lots of country, talked to lots of people, and had some adventures, too --

--Like the day he was standing on the river bank with a lot of other "fisher-people" and noticed that some of them were laying down their fishing poles and heading back to the parking area after looking down the river past him. When he turned around to see what they were looking at, there was a black bear between him and the next guy, who was downstream a ways. Turned out the other fishermen (and women) were just going after their cameras! However, one of the other men had a gun so he had it ready in case of any trouble - but the bear just made his appearance, checked things out, then headed back into the brush. Come to find out, though, a bear had chased a man around the parking lot just a few days earlier before someone shot him. After that, Kent insisted Roger take one of his guns when he was going to be out...!
Roger had gotten a 2nd hand chest freezer (small one) before we left home, and had loaded it into the back of the truck. By putting it in Kent & Tawni's garage while we were there, and then plugging it into the generator every morning and evening on the way home, we were able to bring quite a bit of fish home with us - and since there was no moose to take up room, we had plenty of it (room, that is)! We took 2 canners and some cases of jars with us in case we had time to do some canning, but that didn't happen....
