The Towns Along the Way: Watson Lake, Yukon

Watson Lake's big "claim to fame" is their 'Sign Post Forest'. It was started by a man working on the Alaskan Highway, who put up a signpost from his home town, and now has mushroomed to thousands of signs and license plates. Some of the signs are real town/city signs, some are made with a lot of thought, and some are obviously made at the last minute just so the person would have something to put up. Roger planned to go to the Brookings city shop and see if he could get one for us to take with us this trip, but never got around to it - after all, he only had a year to do it... :)


We found a lot of signs from Oregon both last year and this year. Here's just a couple of them....Pistol River and Gold Hill


We got one of Tawni's personalized plates that she had on her car before she got married and moved to Idaho, and put it up on our way home. They had taken it with them when they drove back up in June, but didn't have any way to put it up at the time.



Maybe NEXT year we'll get one put up for Brookings. In all of our looking, both years, we didn't see one from here - but that's not to say there isn't one there somewhere! There is no way, short of spending a whole day looking, to see them all...
