The Old Liles Dairy Had A Barn...e,i,e,i,o..... Part 1

For those of you who are familiar with the home where Roger grew up on the Winchuck River, you are quite aware of the dairy barn that sits out by the road, and is a landmark on the Winchuck River Road. When Roger's parents moved their family to the property in 1956 they began working towards a dream of someday operating a dairy there. Within a few years, that's exactly what they had. The dairy supported the family until after Roger's dad, Roy, had to have open heart surgery in 1972. They kept it going for a short time after that, but the cows were all sold by September 1973. Since then, the barns have been used for storage of everything from RV's to canning jars, and were a source of all kinds of activities by the grandchildren and great grandchildren. It has been a wonderful place with lots of room to play, and nooks and crannies to explore. However, two winters ago, during a big wind storm, part of the roof toward the back of the main barn blew off, and this past holiday season, during another storm, part of the outside wall (where the roof was already gone) fell out. It's now time to dismantle and remove what's left before it all falls down on its own.

As you can imagine, our girls and grandchildren are very sad :( The old barn is a part of their cherished childhood memories. It's no longer safe to play or explore in though, and it's better to take it down than to let it fall down and run the chance of some serious damage being done.

I'm going to go to my MIL's and see if I can find a picture or two of the barn "as it was", and we're taking pictures of the tear down (which is going a little slow right now because the guy who wants to salvage part of the metal roofing injured his back doing something at his home, so hasn't been able to come back and finish that part). If I can find old pictures at Frankie's I will post them, then after the job is done I will post a series of them showing the 'all fall down' part...
