This picture was taken from north of the mountain, near Fairbanks. With the haze, it's not easy to see. We only caught glimpses of it a couple of times during our stay this year - as opposed to last year when we saw it several times. The weather was just not cooperating this year. On a clear day, it's visible for a couple hundred miles...
This was taken last year at Talkeetna. It was a beautiful day, and we got lots of nice pictures of Mt. McKinley that day.
It looked like this cloud was racing across the sky and smashing into the mountain like a wave hitting a rock on the beach.
It's not real clear here, but the clouds were rising above the mountain in a zig-zag pattern.
Just some "generic" mountain pictures.... Pictures simply cannot do justice to the size of the mountains - It's hard to catch the perspective unless you're right there looking at them.
These have what is called "termination dust" on them - meaning the first snowfall of the season, indicating the "termination" of summer.
Here's an example that might give you a "size perspective" - those are not foothills in the foreground - they are actual mountains, with the huge mountain rising behind them...
Our lunch view one afternoon...
This is called Folded Mountain - for obvious reasons. A very interesting rock formation, easier seen in the 2nd picture close-up... The sign had a very evolutionary explaination involving millions of years, but I prefer to believe that God was just having some fun with His creation here :)
