We arrived in Soldotna on Thursday evening. Roger caught a nice salmon on Friday, and lost a couple of others before he could net them. On Saturday morning, he went to his field day, and now has his bow hunter's certification for hunting up here.
We drove back up to the kids place Saturday afternoon, and they flew back in from Juneau where Kent had been working last week a few hours later. Since they live in one of the church-owned houses, it's right on the edge of the large church parking lot, with plenty of room for us to park our trailer right next to their place, and still be out of the way. It's working out really well.
Next week we'll all be going north about as far as we can go looking for moose & caribou. Roger is only going to get a caribou tag this year, but Kent can hunt for both. They've all 3 (Kyler has a bow, as well) been target practicing in the back yard since we got here -- this house has a good sized back yard, as opposed to the postage stamp they had at the last place!
The kids start school tomorrow (Wednesday), so will get in 3 days before taking off next week. We all walked over to the open house this afternoon at their church school. They certainly won't have any excuses for being late to school this year, since they live so close now! The family is hosting an 8th grade girl this year from Kotsubo (sp?), a village north of Nome. She arrived just after noon today, and the kids are excited for her to be here! Tori has about talked her ear off already (Tori is related to her Nana!!) :)
Roger & Kent spent all day Monday working on the kids older motor home, fixing some of the problems that it's developed, getting it ready for next week's trip north. They still have a gasket to put in, and hopefully that will take care of things.
I may or may not have a chance to post anything else on here while we're up here, but any pictures will have to wait....
